Virtual Reality and Animation for Matlab and Simulink Users

Virtual Reality and Animation for Matlab and Simulink Users About this book * Gives the reader hands on example-base experience for simulating dynamical models in MATLAB(R)/Simulink(R) and animating them in VRML * More than 150 images describe each step in the model realizations helping readers to understand them visually * Diverse examples and profound problem treatment enable the reader to animate complex dynamical problems m-files, Simulink models, VRML files and jpegs available for download provide full solutions for the end-of-chapter problems Virtual Reality and Animation for MATLAB(R) and Simulink(R) Users demonstrates the simulation and animation of physical systems using the MATLAB(R) Virtual Reality Toolbox (virtual models are created in V-Realm Builder). The book is divided into two parts; the first addresses MATLAB(R) and the second Simulink(R). The presentation is problem-based with each chapter teaching the reader a group of essential principles in the context of a step-by-step solution to a particular issue. Examples of the systems covered include mass-spring-dampers, a crank-slider mechanism and a moving vehicle. The examples are given in ascending level of difficulty and contain MATLAB(R)/Simulink(R) codes deliberately simplified so that readers can focus on: / understanding how to link a 3-d virtual scene to MATLAB(R)/Simulink(R); and / manipulating the 3-d virtual scene in MATLAB(R)/Simulink(R). When studied in sequence, the chapters of this text form a coherent whole enabling the reader to gain a thorough expertise in virtual simulation and animation of dynamical models using MATLAB(R)/Simulink(R). Individual chapters stand on their own, however, so that readers interested in a particular system can concentrate on it easily. Problems are provided in each chapter to give practice in the techniques demonstrated and to extend the range of the systems studied, for example, into the control sphere. Solution code for these problems can be downloaded from insert URL. Whether modeling the dynamics of a simple pendulum, a robot arm or a moving car, animation of a dynamical model can enliven and encourage understanding of mechanical systems and thus contribute to control design. Virtual Reality and Animation for MATLAB(R) and Simulink(R) Users will be instructive and interesting to anyone, researcher or student, working with the dynamics of physical systems. Readers are assumed to have some familiarity with MATLAB(R).

VHDL Modeling for Digital Design Synthesis

VHDL Modeling for Digital Design Synthesis VHDL is a hardware description language that allows the specification of a digital system over different levels of abstraction. It supports behavior specification during the early stages of a design process and structural specification during the later implementation stages. Originally introduced as a hardware description language that permitted the simulation of digital designs, VHDL is now increasingly used for design specifications that are given as the input to synthesis tools which translate the specifications into netlists from which the physical systems can be built. One problem with this is that not all of its constructs are useful in synthesis. VHDL has data structures, such as files and pointers, which are useful for simulation but not for actual synthesis. As a result, synthesis tools accept only subsets of VHDL. VHDL Modeling for Digital Design Synthesis covers the synthesis aspects of VHDL, keeping the simulation specifics to a minimum. Audience: Working professionals as well as graduate or undergraduate students who can use the book to get acquainted with VHDL and to learn how it can be used in modeling or digital design.

Traceable Temperatures: An Introduction to Temperature Measurement and Calibration

Traceable Temperatures: An Introduction to Temperature Measurement and Calibration The concept of traceability has evolved to ensure measurements can be communicated consistently and unambiguously. This new edition of a classic reference offers a systematic treatment of traceable temperature measurement and presents a practical guide to the principles and purpose of measurements. With an emphasis on recognizing sources of uncertainty, Nicholas and White examine the most commonly used thermometers: liquid-in-glass thermometers, platinum resistance thermometers, thermocouples and radiation thermometers. The new edition features: How to make measurements fit for purpose; the importance of traceability, uncertainty and measurement standards. The latest advances in industrial and laboratory thermometry, with a unique emphasis on practical advice on how to recognise and treat errors. An updated chapter on calibration, reflecting the changes brought about by the release of the ISO 17025 standard for laboratory accreditation. A systematic treatment of uncertainty in measurement consistent with ISO guidelines, including numerous thermometry examples and exercises. Practising engineers, scientists and technicians will value the authors' emphasis on practical advice combined with quality concepts. Engineering students, researchers and instrument manufacturers will benefit from the self-teaching approach.

Theoretical Aspects and Computer Modeling of the Molecular Solid State

Theoretical Aspects and Computer Modeling of the Molecular Solid State The Molecular Solid State Founding Editor: J.D. Dunitz ETH Zentrum, Zürich, Switzerland This new series reports on advances in the field of molecular solid state chemistry. Each volume focuses on selected areas and highlights methods and results in syntheses, properties and applications. Future volumes will provide a continuing forum for the discussion of chemical, physical, biological and crystallographic aspects of the molecular solid state. Theoretical Aspects and Computer Modeling of the Molecular Solid State Edited by Angelo Gavezzotti, University of Milan, Italy Focusing on crystal symmetry, intermolecular forces and the thermodynamics of solids and phase transitions, this first volume in the series provides the basic theoretical framework for understanding the molecular solid state. This compendium of reviews opens the way to the computer modeling of molecules and molecular crystals, enabling the reproduction and prediction of structural and energetic properties. This forms the basis for understanding the exciting developments in experimental techniques and the design and creation of novel materials. An appreciation of the underlying theories and uses of molecular modeling packages is essential for the solid state chemist. Angelo Gavezzotti is a professor of physical chemistry at the University of Milan and a renowned expert in the theoretical and computer modeling of organic solids. He provides an introductory chapter on crystal symmetry and molecular recognition, a topic that is essential in understanding how crystals grow and how crystal properties are related to the physical properties of solids. Theoretical Aspects and Computer Modeling of the Molecular Solid State is invaluable to theoretical chemists in materials science, crystallography and solid state chemistry.
